BUZZ

BEE PART OF IT

Buzz is a high-tech treasure hunting game played within Dungeness by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. Explorers are asked to order their very own copy of the Buzz online before visiting the Buzz hut in Dungeness where they are briefed and then set free to go and explore with the hopes of finding Buzz Jars and being crowned Buzz King/Queen.

LOCATION:  Dungeness, Romney Marsh, Kent TN29, United Kingdom

PROFILE:  Dungeness is unique in the UK in that it has more species of bumblebees than any other locality, particularly due to the high density of the more nectar-rich flowers that bumblebees can use. We need to realise the value of our bumblebees and the impact of their decline and therefore I propose an innovative concept based on an existing project in partnership with The Bumblebee Conservation Trust and the RSPB. A century on after the shorthaired bumblebee’s extinction in the UK, a small number of bees have been transported back across the globe for the re-introduction scheme. If marketed correctly this can be a highly effective form of marketing to get the message across.

AIMS:  My main aim for this project was to combine education and entertainment in an innovative interactive awareness campaign directed towards kids.

CONCEPT:  Keeping environmental branding in mind the brand stretches by integrating interactivity and turning a campaign into a fun-learning memorable experience. Focus is on touch point elements that have a profound effect on the experience of the customer in order to extend the brand emotionally. It is personal to the area (individual project based specifically within Dungeness), it is informative (including knowledge surrounding the subject of bumblebees) and it fun (catering for target consumer). It acts as a cross strand between education and entertainment.

PROPOSAL:  Keeping up with today’s contemporary culture the following is a proposal of a high tech treasure hunting game centered around Dungeness using GPS devices to locate findings. It provides an insight into the bumblebee species within Dungeness as well as help the audience understand direction, mapping, pollination ecology and natural history. It acts as an awareness campaign while forming part of a learning game.
